To create accessible, engaging community hubs for senior citizens (AGE members) that enhance their social, intellectual, and physical well-being through structured activities, leveraging technology and local resources. This initiative aims to improve quality of life, foster intergenerational collaboration and align with broader accessibility goals.

Key Components:

  1. Reading Circles
    • Purpose: Promote literacy, cognitive health, and social bonding through group reading sessions.
    • Activities: Book discussions, storytelling, and shared learning with volunteer facilitators (e.g., National Service members).
    • Resources: Libraries, donated books, comfortable seating areas.
  2. Tech Circles
    • Purpose: Bridge the digital divide by teaching seniors to use smartphones, social media (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn), and basic online tools.
    • Activities: Workshops on navigation, safety online, and connecting with family/friends, supported by tech-savvy volunteers.
    • Resources: Tablets, internet access, simplified guides.
  3. Fitness & Recreation Circles
    • Purpose: Encourage physical activity and social interaction to support health and longevity.
    • Activities: Walking groups, dance classes, and recreational games, led by trained National Service personnel or local fitness instructors.
    • Resources: Open spaces, basic exercise equipment, festive supplies for events.

 

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased social engagement and mental/physical health among AGE members.
  • Enhanced digital literacy, supporting easier interaction with services like SSNIT’s verification system.
